Sumter's Monteque Rhames, long-time Gamecocks target, sets announcement
Sumter (S.C.) class of 2023 On3Consensus four-star EDGE Monteque Rhames, a long-time priority South Carolina football target, will announce his decision on July 30, he Tweeted Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-5, 244-pounder announced a top eight of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, NC State, Virginia Tech and UCF back in June — Alabama also offered the talented pass-rusher after he announced his top schools.

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – has Rhames as the No. 329 overall player in the country, No. 40 EDGE in the nation and No. 4 player from the state of South Carolina in the class of 2023.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gamecocks have a commanding lead to land Rhames’ pledge at 93.1%. The team with the next-best odds is North Carolina State at 3.7%.

“They practice like us, they’ve got the same name as us with the Gamecock thing. It’s a lot of similarities to what we do now, all that,” Rhames told Gamecock Central in March about South Carolina. “There are a little different plays and stuff like that, but I like the things they do. I talk to almost the whole staff when I go there.”

Rhames has an On3 NIL Valuation of 13.4K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
If Rhames were to commit to the Gamecocks, assuming there are on commitments between now and then, he would be the 14th pledge of the 2023 class.
South Carolina’s class is currently ranked the No. 26 class in the country in the On3 Team Recruiting Rankings, which is driven by the On3Consensus.
