Former South Carolina staffer joining Bill Belichick at UNC
Former South Carolina staffer Taylor Edwards is headed north. On Thursday, InsideCarolina’s Jeremiah Holloway reported that new North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick will hire Edwards to a role in his player personnel department, likely a different one than the job he held in Columbia.

This summer, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer fired Edwards for his role in committing recruiting violations. Specifically, the University of South Carolina dismissed Edwards as part of its self-reporting of Level-III NCAA recruiting violations. He had been on the job in Columbia for over three years before his dismissal. The Gamecocks replaced Edwards with USC alum Darren Uscher.
Edwards is not the only former Gamecock staffer on Belichick’s staff at North Carolina, however. Former senior offensive analyst and interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens will stay with the team. Currently, he is the interim head coach for the Heels’ Fenway Bowl game matchup against UConn. He worked with the team’s tight ends last year and will be an offensive assistant in 2025. Kitchens spent just one year in Columbia.

Earlier this month, former South Carolina tight end Connor Cox committed to North Carolina out of the transfer portal. Edwards helped recruit Cox to the Gamecocks as part of the recruiting class of 2023.

Edwards will join a player personnel department that already includes former NFL scout Joe Anile and former UCF assistant player personnel director Andrew Blaylock.
