Just two days after committing, South Carolina transfer portal pledge flips to SEC rival
South Carolina transfer portal commitment Andrew Jones has flipped to Ole Miss while on a visit in Oxford. The linebacker prospect from Grambling State told On3 his updated plans on Friday. The new pledge comes less than 48 hours after Jones publicly committed to the Gamecocks.
Jones, as a linebacker, would have filled a position of need for USC. The Gamecocks are losing three senior contributors in the middle of the defense. Debo Williams, Demetrius Knight, and Bam Martin-Scott got almost every snap at linebacker down the stretch this year. All three have graduated and will be pursuing an NFL career next. Earlier in the year, Bangally Kamara transferred out of the program, as well.
The Lane Kiffin-led Rebels have not been shy about throwing some money around in the transfer portal during recent cycles, and that appears to be no different this year. Ole Miss has been among the most active teams in the portal this winter. The Gamecocks and Rebels will play in Oxford next November.

With Jones’ decommitment and flip to Ole Miss, South Carolina has no linebackers committed during this transfer cycle. Several class of 2025 Gamecock signees play the position, but USC would like to add at least one veteran linebacker via the portal this offseason to partner with rising sophomore Fred “JayR” Johnson, redshirt junior Jaron Willis, redshirts senior Ronnie Porter, and the incoming freshmen.
A short recruiting dead period will begin after this weekend. When things open back up, South Carolina football fans can expect Shane Beamer and company to get involved with a linebacker option or two.
