Former South Carolina lineman to spend seventh year with Bill Belichick at North Carolina

One of the oldest players in college football will join college football’s oldest head coach. On Friday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that former South Carolina offensive lineman Jakai Moore will spend the 2025-2026 season. Moore, a seventh-year offensive lineman, will play for 73-year-old head coach Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels. According to Nakos’ report, Moore has signed with UNC.
It didn’t take long for Moore to find suitors following his decision to enter the transfer portal last week. The big man has tons of experience, both as a starter and as a reserve, making him attractive to almost any roster.
Over the past six seasons in Columbia, Moore played in 44 games for the Gamecocks, starting 28 of them, and he saw time at four different spots along the offensive line. He started 13 games at left tackle, seven at left guard, four at right guard, and four at right tackle. The Virginia native also spent time backing up other players at both tackle spots and both guard positions.

Earlier during the spring transfer portal window, fellow offensive lineman Kam Pringle left the USC program. He signed with Syracuse this week.
With those departures (and an injury to Ryan Brubaker), South Carolina’s starting offensive line likely won’t look any different. However, the Gamecocks’ depth was affected, prompting offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley to sign former Incarnate Word lineman Nolan Hoy (another versatile player) out of the transfer portal this week. Hoy will join the large group of players fighting for playing time. He likely will vie for snaps on the interior at guard or center but has experience playing tackle, too.
