South Carolina football will get a visit from elite transfer portal wide receiver Trey Wallace. The former Penn State Nittany Lions pass catcher will be on campus on Sunday, January 19th. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the news on Wednesday evening.

South Carolina Transfer Portal Resources:

GamecockCentral has been monitoring Wallace since he entered the transfer portal earlier this week. GC’s Chris Clark included Wallace’s name as one to watch and called the senior receiver “a fit” for the Gamecocks.

Wallace has WR1 experience (he had 46 catches, 720 yards, and four touchdowns this season), and USC has kicked the tires on several other big-name transfer wideouts this cycle. Though the transfer portal is closed for most, because Penn State was in the College Football Playoff and wasn’t eliminated until this past weekend, Wallace was able to enter his name into the portal late.

As a player, Trey Wallace is exactly what the Gamecocks are looking for as a portal target. He’s got enough size to play outside (listed at 6’1″ and 194 pounds on his Penn State bio). The Alabama native is a really good perimeter and downfield blocker, too. He also combines proven production with what seems to be more untapped potential.

Penn State’s passing attack was up and down at times, but Wallace was consistent. He logged at least three catches in 11 games this season and reached the 45-yard mark 10 times.

No matter what Wallace decides, South Carolina will have a crowded wide receiver room in 2025. However, that includes six true freshmen from this year’s recruiting class. While there will be plenty of talent at the position, adding an experienced player like Wallace could go a long way.

South Carolina will have a nice story to tell Wallace with LaNorris Sellers at quarterback, Mike Furrey as wide receivers coach, and a team-on-the-rise hype around the program. It is still early in Wallace’s portal recruitment, but the Gamecocks seem to have a chance here.

Wallace also is visiting Texas A&M, Louisville, and North Carolina.
