Uniform report for South Carolina-Clemson rivalry
For the 12th and final time during the 2024 regular season, South Carolina plays football on Saturday. The Gamecocks and the rival Clemson Tigers will take the field in the Upstate for the 121st time in Palmetto Bowl history.
Both the Gamecocks and the Tigers are ranked inside the College Football Playoff Rankings’ top-15 teams, and the in-state rivals each need a win on Saturday to keep their hopes for an at-large bid to the CFP alive (Clemson still could get in via the ACC Championship if a few things bounce their way). The 8-3 Gamecocks and 9-2 Tigers will play in one of the most consequential games in rivalry history.
Through the first 11 games of the season, South Carolina has only repeated a uniform combination once. USC repeated the 1980 throwback threads that they debuted against Akron when they took on Wofford last week.
On Saturday, the Gamecocks will repeat another uniform.

Typically, on the day before an early game, the South Carolina football social media team provides hints to the fanbase about the team’s gameday uniform combination. However, on Palmetto Bowl Eve, that did not happen.
On Saturday morning, though, the first teaser dropped. The official Gamecock Football account on Twitter/X revealed the team would wear black helmets. Many in the fanbase instantly thought of 2022. That version of the South Carolina football team knocked off the top-10 Clemson Tigers while wearing black helmets, white jerseys, and white pants.

South Carolina fans who predicted a 2022 repeat were correct. The Gamecocks will wear their black helmets, white jerseys, and white pants. Earlier this season, Carolina wore the combo on the road against Oklahoma. That game started USC’s current 5-game win streak as the Gamecocks won big, 35-9.

The University of South Carolina holds a 2-0 lead so far in the 2024-2025 Palmetto Series. Through five sports this fall, there have been three ties (men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and women’s cross country) and two Gamecock victories (volleyball and women’s basketball).
Kickoff is at noon on Saturday. ESPN will broadcast the 2024 Carolina-Clemson rivalry game, and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming. Roy Philpott, Sam Acho, and Taylor Davis will be on the call.
