Former 4-star EDGE leaving South Carolina in transfer portal
South Carolina redshirt freshman EDGE rusher Wendell Gregory plans to transfer, per a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2024 but redshirted after moving from linebacker to EDGE in his first year in Columbia. Gregory will enter the portal during the spring window, right around the time of the Garnet and Black Spring Game. He will have four years of eligibility left to play.
During his only season in garnet and black, Gregory saw action in two games. The 6-3, 245-pound athlete logged just one tackle, a stop against the Akron Zips last September.
The recruiting industry was divided on Gregory’s best positional fit. Some outlets rated him as a linebacker, while others (including On3) considered him an EDGE. It remains to be seen which position he’d like to play at his next collegiate stop.
Second-year player who worked at Edge rusher in his first season in Columbia… looking for a strong spring that will propel him into a regular role in the fall.

True freshman who moved to Edge rusher after playing linebacker in high school… enrolled at South Carolina in January and went through spring drills… appeared in two contests, seeing action against both Akron and Wofford… notched his lone tackle against the Zips… redshirted.
HIGH SCHOOL
Graduated from Walton High School in Marietta, Ga. in December 2023… led the Raiders to a 14-1 record and a runnerup finish in the 7A Georgia state playoffs as a senior… totaled 56 tackles including 18.0 tackles for loss with 7.0 sacks and 14 hurries… coached by Daniel Brunner… made the transition from wide receiver to linebacker during his sophomore season… credited with 38 tackles and four sacks as a junior and 58 stops as a sophomore… also ran track at the high school level.
