Shane Beamer provides latest injury status of two players who missed spring ball

South Carolina opened spring ball with four players likely to miss all or most of the spring due to injuries, and during Thursday night’s call-in show, head coach Shane Beamer gave the latest on two of them.
“Caleb Williams, the defensive lineman that’s new here, that just graduated high school, he didn’t do anything this spring,” Beamer began. “He’ll be available this season but it will be very late in the summer before he really gets going, so I don’t know how realistic it is — I hope he can get back — but a defensive lineman that isn’t really cleared until the end of the summer that will be tough to say, ‘Be ready for Day 1.'”

South Carolina’s fifth-year head coach also provided the latest on Ryan Brubaker, who served as South Carolina’s backup center last year and saw action in five games.
“Ryan Brubaker, who’s an offensive lineman for us, and has been around our program for a couple of years and is a good, solid player, he’s a guy that I would say is very unlikely to be able to do anything this upcoming season,” Beamer said.
Sophomore tight end Michael Smith and true freshman offensive tackle Damola Ajidahun also missed the entire spring with undisclosed injuries. But Beamer said when the first announced them that both are expected back for the regular season.

Smith, a contributor as a freshman last season, was spotted at practice doing rehab work on the sidelines and is expected to be fine. He caught 10 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown.
The Gamecocks also lost offensive guard Nick Sharpe and EDGE Jaylen Brown to injuries during spring ball, which ended their springs prematurely.
Beamer did not provide an update on either player during Thursday’s report.
The Gamecocks are set to conclude their spring practice with the Garnet and Black Spring Game Friday at 7:30 at Williams-Brice Stadium.
