South Carolina set to hire veteran assistant on offense
Shane Beamer is expected to hire veteran assistant James Coley to his South Carolina football staff, GamecockCentral.com has learned.
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports first reported the move on Tuesday night.
GamecockCentral reported on Wednesday morning that tight ends coach Jody Wright is expected to be named head football coach at Murray State.
Coley’s exact title is not yet confirmed and GamecockCentral is told that there could be further shuffling of staff roles.
USC parted ways with previous running backs coach Montario Hardesty earlier this month.

Coley, 50, most recently completed a four-year stint at Texas A&M University, where he coached receivers in 2020 and 2021 and mentored tight ends the past two seasons.
Regarded as an outstanding recruiter, the Miami native’s first college job was as a graduate assistant under Nick Saban for LSU in 2003.

Sources say that Coley turned down substantial offers from two other programs to take the job offered by Beamer at South Carolina.
The two have worked together previously; Coley served as the wide receivers coach at Georgia during the 2016 and 2017 seasons alongside Beamer, who coached the tight ends for Kirby Smart in Athens.
Coley has also worked as an assistant for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL, plus stints at FIU, FSU, and Miami.
