Former Ball State transfer tight end Brady Hunt, who joined the South Carolina program last offseason, will be back for a second year in the Garnet and Black.

The Gamecocks official collective, Garnet Trust, announced a deal with Hunt on Thursday, confirming his expected return to the program.

Hunt was part of Carolina’s three-man rotation at tight end along with Joshua Simon and Michael Smith in 2024. He missed the last few games of the season with a knee injury and finished with two catches for 22 yards, including a huge first down grab late in the win over Missouri.

“Football is important to Brady. He loves the game, he loves what it can do for him. He gives us everything he has every single rep,” tight ends coach Shawn Elliott said of Hunt last spring. “I don’t know if I’ve said a negative thing about Brady all year because he does a nice job of trying to get it right. And he typically gets it right.”

The 6-foot-5, 253-pound Hunt should take on an even bigger role next season with Simon out of eligibility.

A prototypical tight end who can block or catch, Hunt missed the 2023 season at Ball State but had a breakout year in 2022 with 46 receptions for 498 yards and five touchdowns.

Retention has been a huge focus for the Gamecocks this offseason.

Garnet Trust announced on Christmas Eve that it signed a new deal with SEC Freshman of the Year quarterback LaNorris Sellers after previously inking an agreement with Dylan Stewart, the On3 National Freshman of the Year.

“Kudos to our fanbase, kudos to our administration, kudos to the Garnet Trust for all they’ve done to be able to help us and our guys out in so many ways,” Beamer said of South Carolina’s efforts in player retention last year. “This program is about relationships, honesty, and trust and having conversations with guys, and building relationships throughout the season. Guys have expressed to us that they want to be (here).”

“I think retaining our current roster is the most important thing,” added Darren Uscher, South Carolina football’s Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, during a recent appearance on GC Live.
