South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said Sunday that offensive lineman Trai Jones would be out this week against Vanderbilt and on Tuesday, during his latest injury update, Beamer said that running back Dakereon Joyner has been downgraded from “doubtful” to “out” for this week.

“Injury-wise for us, Trai Jones will be out — he will not play this week,” Beamer said Tuesday. “Dakereon Joyner will be out this week. Hopefully, we’ll get him back soon. And Trey Knox I would say is questionable this week. He did a little bit out there at practice this week and hopefully he will be okay and ready to go also.”

Joyner, who suffered an ankle injury on Saturday, was seen coming out of the injury tent during the game, according to GamecockCentral’s Jack Veltri. He was sitting on a table with his jersey off talking to the medical staff. It’s unclear how severe the ankle injury is.

Both Jones and Knox missed the Jacksonville State game after going down against Texas A&M.

Jones suffered a high-ankle sprain while Knox was dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered while extending for a pass.

A couple of days ago, Beamer also provided a Sunday evening update on the status of wide receiver Juice Wells and Jaylen Nichols.

Wells has played in just three games this season while Nichols has missed the whole year to this point with a knee injury that took place in the spring game.

“Juice is closer (to returning) than Jaylen is at this point,” Beamer said Sunday. “Juice did a little bit of running. Our guys are finishing up weightlifting right now. Juice did a little bit of running here today this afternoon, so he’ll hopefully get a good report from that and feel good. He did a little bit of running last week and felt good. I know he wants to get back, and like I said last week, it’s just making sure that his body’s where he needs to be physically when he does come back.

“Jaylen’s a guy that’s in great spirits, and certainly I’m sure would love to get out there and be able to play a little bit this year. He’s working hard in the training room and rehab to get back and I don’t think it would be anything anytime soon, but we’ll see. Two guys that are working really, really hard and certainly hate not being out there right now.”

Beamer added on Tuesday that Wells is likely once again out this week.

The Gamecocks host Vanderbilt this upcoming Saturday with a noon kickoff at Williams-Brice Stadium.
