Injury Report: Just 'Bumps and bruises' for Gamecocks, Linebacker returns to action

Seven practices into South Carolina’s spring, the Gamecocks have managed to avoid major injuries, head football coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday afternoon during his press conference, while adding that a highly touted freshman is back practicing.
“We’ve got some guys, injury-wise, nothing major, long-term, got some bumps and bruises, some hamstrings, things like that, primarily in the defensive back group,” Beamer said. “Trying to get those guys healthy. It was good to see Pup Howard back out there practicing today. He’s been out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring so it was good to see him be back out there running around.”

Howard is a former four-star linebacker signee from Jacksonville who actually went through some of the Gamecocks’ bowl practices and was working with the second group during the open portion of the first practice.
Several players are already being held out for most of, if not all of, the spring as they rehab surgeries from previous injuries.
Defensive lineman Tonka Hemingway, offensive tackle Cason Henry, linebacker Mo Kaba and EDGE Jordan Strachan will likely miss the entirety of the spring while defensive back David Spaulding is currently being held out as well but could return to action in the latter part of the spring.
