South Carolina added a couple of new names to its injury list against Jacksonville State but fortunately for the Gamecocks, most of those weren’t considered too serious.

Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer offered the latest on the injury front during his Sunday teleconference including the latest on a couple of players who missed the Gamecocks’ win over Jax State.

“Injury-wise, I would say Trai Jones will be out again this week,” Beamer said. “And I would say Dakereon (Joyner), at this point, is probably doubtful for this week. I’ll have more for you on Tuesday. He was getting some tests done this afternoon. And Trey Knox is questionable. Anybody else that got banged up yesterday during the game should be fine for Saturday.”

Joyner, who suffered an ankle injury on Saturday, was seen coming out of the injury tent during the game, according to GamecockCentral’s Jack Veltri. He was sitting on a table with his jersey off talking to the medical staff. It’s unclear how severe the ankle injury is.

Both Jones and Knox missed the Jacksonville State game after going down against Texas A&M.

Jones suffered a high-ankle sprain while Knox was dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered while extending for a pass.

Offensive linemen Cason Henry and Jakai Moore both exited the Jacksonville State game with injuries but were able to return. Same with running back Mario Anderson, who fought through a shoulder issue.

Beamer also provided a Sunday evening update on the status of wide receiver Juice Wells and Jaylen Nichols.

Wells has played in just three games this season while Nichols has missed the whole year to this point with a knee injury that took place in the spring game.

“Juice is closer (to returning) than Jaylen is at this point,” Beamer said. “Juice did a little bit of running. Our guys are finishing up weightlifting right now. Juice did a little bit of running here today this afternoon, so he’ll hopefully get a good report from that and feel good. He did a little bit of running last week and felt good. I know he wants to get back, and like I said last week, it’s just making sure that his body’s where he needs to be physically when he does come back.

“Jaylen’s a guy that’s in great spirits, and certainly I’m sure would love to get out there and be able to play a little bit this year. He’s working hard in the training room and rehab to get back and I don’t think it would be anything anytime soon, but we’ll see. Two guys that are working really, really hard and certainly hate not being out there right now.”

The Gamecocks host Vanderbilt this upcoming Saturday with a noon kickoff at Williams-Brice Stadium.
