South Carolina will first take on Texas A&M this weekend at noon in College Station on SEC Network.

The Columbia-based Gamecocks are currently 2-5 overall and 1-4 in SEC play after a 34-12 loss at Missouri this past weekend. South Carolina has also suffered losses to Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina with wins over Mississippi State and Furman.

Jacksonville State, led by former West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez, is currently 6-2 and coming off a 20-17 win over Western Kentucky. Those Gamecocks travel to FIU this weekend.

Formerly a member of the ASUN Conference, Jacksonville State started transitioning into Conference USA in all sports in the summer of 2023.

With the new conference home, JSU is making the jump to the FBS, ending a run in the FCS that started in 1995 and has seen them win nine conference championships and advance to the playoffs 10 times, including a national runner-up finish in 2015.

JSU replaced the Liberty Flames, led by former Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell, on South Carolina’s 2023 schedule.

South Carolina injury report growing once again

A South Carolina football team that appeared to be on the back end of at least some of its many injury problems after the bye week, has seen its injury report start to grow in length once again.

After coming out of the Florida game relatively healthy, South Carolina suffered several setbacks in Saturday’s loss to Missouri, including blows to two positions that have already been hard hit this year.

“Injury-wise, I would say it’s a long list,” Shane Beamer said on his Sunday teleconference. “We were worried about Mario Anderson coming out of the game. He will be fine. Trovon Baugh and Tree (Babalade) both had some injuries yesterday. I would say both those guys are questionable for Saturday. Stone Blanton came out of the game well. Cason Henry is questionable. Ahmarean Brown, I would say, is questionable. Vershon Lee is questionable. And Xavier Legette is questionable.”
