Jordan Strachan officially approved for extra year of eligibility
South Carolina starting EDGE Jordan Strachan will officially be on the Gamecocks roster in 2023 after the NCAA approved his waiver for an additional year of eligibility, head coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday during a press conference.
“Strachan is official, he is good to go,” Beamer said. “Excited for him and thankful that the powers that be decided that.”

Strachan entered the 2022 season as a “Super Senior,” hoping to put together a strong final year of production before making a run at the NFL.
But the former Georgia State standout who transferred to Carolina prior to the 2021 campaign saw his 2022 season cut short before it even got rolling due to a torn ACL in Week 2.
Since the Kingsland, Ga. native also missed almost the entire 2019 season after suffering a knee injury in the first game, it gave him a strong case with the NCAA for an additional year.
Now he’ll have one more opportunity to suit up for the Gamecocks in what will be his seventh season of college ball.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder’s return is massive for a South Carolina defense that lost EDGEs Jordan Burch and Gilber Edmond to the transfer portal during the offseason.
Prior to the injury, Strachan and Burch were the Gamecocks’ two starters after both served as second-teamers in 2021.

Strachan is one of several players that South Carolina has held out of spring practice while he continues to rehab his injury.
During his career, the former three-star prospect who entered college as a safety, has 111 total tackles, 63 solo tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, one interception, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.
Last season, Strachan totaled 10 tackles including 3.0 tackles for loss and a sack and tied his career high with six tackles at Arkansas before leaving the game with the injury.
In his first season at Carolina in 2021, he played in all 13 games collecting 22 tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks as well as two pass breakups and five quarterback hurries.
In the year before he arrived in Columbia, Strachan tied for the FBS lead with a Georgia State school record 10.5 sacks.
Former transfer and walk-on running back Dante Miller is also attempting to get an additional year of eligibility with South Carolina but Beamer said the former Columbia University speedster has not yet received a ruling from the NCAA.
