Junior college defensive tackle signee Jerome Simmons will not be a member of South Carolina’s football team this season, GamecockCentral.com has learned.

An alumnus of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High, Simmons signed with South Carolina out of Highland Community College (Kansas) as a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

Sources tell GamecockCentral.com that the door is open for Simmons to join the program next January, should certain academic obligations be met.

As a prospect, the 6-foot-4, 333-pounder was ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking as a three-star player and as the 18th-best junior college prospect nationally.

He carried scholarship offers from Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, and Marshall. Last season at Highland C.C., Simmons tallied 26 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack.
