Gamecocks lose a 2024 pledge
Cincinnati (Oh.) Archbishop Moeller class of 2024 cornerback Karson Hobbs committed to South Carolina in late July but that pledge came before Notre Dame offered the three-star prospect.
Hobbs, who recently called Notre Dame his “dream school” to Blue and Gold’s Mike Singer, has visited the Fighting Irish for games at least twice this season and officially announced his decommitment from the Gamecocks on Tuesday night.
“First, I would like to thank South Carolina and the coaches for overwhelming love and support they expressed to me after my acceptance into the Gamecocks community,” Hobbs said in a Tweet. “I would also like to thank my family and friends for their support during this recruitment process. With that being said, I have decided to decommit from The University Of South Carolina.”

Hobbs, who grew up a “diehard fan” of the Irish, landed an offer when he visited South Bend for Notre Dame’s game with Cal and then was back on hand for the win over Clemson.
“Coach Mickens and I were talking, and I told him I was committed to South Carolina, but at the same time, I’m a diehard Notre Dame fan,” Hobbs told Blue and Gold in September. “I told my school (South Carolina) that I’m not going to be taking a lot of visits; this is probably the only other one I’ll take. I couldn’t miss the opportunity to take the visit; you only get the recruiting process once.”

Hobbs is the No. 512 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is considered the No. 52 cornerback in the class and the No. 19 prospect in Ohio.
He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $17.3k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
With the decommitment of Hobbs, Fiskdale (Mass.) The Loomis Chaffee four-star quarterback Dante Reno remains the lone prospect on South Carolina’s 2024 commit list.
