South Carolina lands speedy four-star WR
Four-star wide receiver Lex Cyrus announced a commitment to South Carolina on Thursday afternoon during a ceremony at Susquehanna Township High School in Pennsylvania.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder chose the Gamecocks over Penn State. He also drew scholarship offers from Auburn, Maryland, Miami, Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and numerous other programs.
“With South Carolina, all the facilities and stuff are great, but they were really stressing what’s important to them, like family and their culture and being locked in,” Cyrus said of South Carolina to BWI back in May. “So, I learned that they have a fun team mentality and really make sure they’re bonding, but when it’s time to get on the field, they want you locked in. They were really showing me what ways I can help them and were breaking it down. They really did a great job showing me that it’s a place I want to be.”
Tabbed by the On3 Industry Ranking as the seventh-best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania, Cyrus is also ranked as the number 219 prospect in the country and as the number 26 wide receiver prospect in his class.

“I think the past year is a great example of a student-athlete seeing where he needed to develop and really working on it,” said Susquehanna Township head coach Joe Headen told BlueWhiteIllustrated of On3. “Now, he’s seeing those results come together. Is he where he needs to be still? No, but he’s seeing the results and seeing himself get better. The impression was he’s a track guy who plays football, but Lex would always tell you he’s a football guy first.

A state champion in track and field, Cyrus has been timed at 10.41 seconds in the 100 meter dash and is the PIAA District 3 and Mid Penn Conference record holder in the event.
As a junior, he tallied 67 catches for 1,115 yards and 13 touchdowns on the football field.
For South Carolina, Cyrus was recruited by wide receivers coach Mike Furrey, who’s heading into his first season with the Gamecocks.
With Cyrus now committed, the Gamecocks currently hold pledges from a trio of receiver prospects. Joining him in the class are Brian Rowe and Jayden Sellers. Shane Beamer also hopes to add Rock Hill’s Malik Clark, who’s also a priority target for USC.
