After joining the South Carolina football program one year ago, Monkell Goodwine will be back in Columbia for Year 2 in 2025.

Goodwine has signed a new NIL deal with Garnet Trust, the official South Carolina collective announced on Wednesday, signaling his return to Columbia, not that it was any surprise.

A former four-star prospect who originally signed with Alabama out of high school, Goodwine played in all 13 games as a reserve for Carolina this season, collecting 15 tackles including one tackle-for-loss.

After rotating behind veterans like T.J. Sanders, Boogie Huntley, Tonka Hemingway, and Deandre Jules, Goodwine should take on a much bigger role and compete for starter snaps in 2025.

The 6-foot-3, 311-pound Goodwine spent the three prior seasons at Alabama in a reserve role. A former four-star and Top 100 prospect, Goodwine is originally from Upper Marlboro, Md. where he graduated from Rock Creek Christian.

He was ranked the No. 9 defensive lineman in the country out of high school.

Retention has been a huge focus for the Gamecocks this offseason.

Garnet Trust announced on Christmas Eve that it signed a new deal with SEC Freshman of the Year quarterback LaNorris Sellers after previously inking an agreement with Dylan Stewart, the On3 National Freshman of the Year.

“Kudos to our fanbase, kudos to our administration, kudos to the Garnet Trust for all they’ve done to be able to help us and our guys out in so many ways,” Beamer said of South Carolina’s efforts in player retention last year. “This program is about relationships, honesty, and trust and having conversations with guys, and building relationships throughout the season. Guys have expressed to us that they want to be (here).”

“I think retaining our current roster is the most important thing,” added Darren Uscher, South Carolina football’s Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, during a recent appearance on GC Live.
