Shane Beamer is all of us on a football Saturday in the fall
With South Carolina’s football game against SC State last week moved up to Thursday, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer was left a few days late with something rare for an SEC coach: a football Saturday off.
What does an SEC coach do with a fall Saturday off and the opportunity to do whatever he wants?
Apparently, pretty much what every other football fan in the south does. Watch tons of football on TV.

“It was a good Saturday,” Beamer said Tuesday during his weekly press conference. “I got home Friday night, obviously, after work, and probably like a lot of you guys, I guess, watching football.
“I woke up Saturday morning, had a couple of cups of coffee, watched a little bit of Gameday, went downstairs, jumped on the Pelaton for a while. Came back upstairs, went and got a haircut, came home, watched football all afternoon.

“After the 12 noon game, went on a walk with the family for a little over an hour. Came home, watched more football. Ordered Mexican food for dinner. Built a fire on the back porch and sat outside and watched football. Went to bed at about 11 and that was it. It was awesome. I enjoyed watching. I see what a normal Saturday is like when you’re not working on Saturday.”
One of those games on the docket was almost surely Kentucky vs. Ole Miss, a 22-19 victory by the Rebels.
Beamer and the Gamecocks were back on the grind on Sunday as South Carolina prepares to take on the Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. this Saturday.
The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on SEC Network.
