South Carolina offers fast-rising transfer portal OL
Like many top non-Power 5 transfer portal prospects, former Tulsla offensive lineman Jaden Muskrat is receiving quite a bit of attention from the P5 level and South Carolina hopped into the mix on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks stepped in with an offer for the 6-foot-3, 307-pound Muskrat who was Tulsa’s starting right tackle last season, joining schools like Penn State, Auburn, Arkansas, California, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati, among others.

Muskrat, who originally played at Choctaw (Okla.), graduated from Centerton (Ark.) Bentonville West as a three-star prospect in the 2020 class.
Last year was Muskrat’s first as a starter but attention from major programs is obviously there and On3’s Matt Zenitz featured Muskrat as one of seven non-Power 5 transfers garnering high level Power 5 interest.
“That dude is really athletic,” an unnamed Power 5 personnel director told Zenitz. “He plays bigger than he is. He’s only listed at 6-3 and I haven’t seen him in person, but he looks bigger to me than that. But he’s a dude who’s athletic and can move. … I think he can get stronger. I think his play strength is still developing. He’s still getting there in terms of that. But the biggest thing is he can move, he’s played and he’s played in big games and against high level competition and has shown up well and held up well.”

South Carolina is expected to be active in this portal window, just as it has been in previous ones.
While the Gamecocks will certainly look to supplement their roster with anyone who can potentially help, the running back and EDGE positions appear to be the two spots they’ll be most aggressive, though linebacker, offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive back are other positions to keep an eye on.
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer said last week that the Gamecocks are constantly evaluating their roster in terms of what the best steps should be moving forward.
“Any time I have an opportunity to increase competition on our roster and make our football team better, I’m going to as well,” Beamer said. “But at the same time, I’m always cognizant of the culture we have here and making sure that any person we do bring into our program they fit what we’re about as a football program as well on and off the field. And position wise still trying to figure that out and determine that.”
