South Carolina football was no doubt going to be a big underdog this week as the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs come to town and that was confirmed on Sunday afternoon as the initial lines for next Saturday’s matchups came out.

The Gamecocks opened as 26-point underdogs to the Bulldogs, according to Circa Sports, which is usually first to release lines.

The bookie installed the over/under for the game at 48 1/2 points.

Vegas seemed torn on the line with some discrepancies across the various sites.

The VegasInsider Consensus tabbed Georgia as a 23.5-point favorite as of 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. BetRivers had the line as low as 16 points, according to Vegas Insider.

The Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) were defeated at Arkansas 44-30 on Saturday afternoon after defeating Georgia State 35-14 in their opener.

Georgia (2-0, 0-0 SEC) defeated Sanford 33-0 in Week 2 after defeating Oregon 49-3 in Week 1.

South Carolina and Georgia are set for a noon kickoff Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium on ESPN.

Gamecock Central will have complete coverage throughout the week.

South Carolina allowed 295 yards on the ground Saturday with the Razorbacks averaging nearly five yards per carry when taking out sack yardage.

“There’s no question we’ve got to be able to run the ball and stop the run to win football games, especially against a team like Arkansas,” Shane Beamer said. “They just lineup offensively and just try to bludgeon you to death.”

The rushing attack ultimately propelled Arkansas to victory, with five touchdowns coming from four different Razorbacks on the ground.

After the game, Beamer added that he wasn’t any more impressed with Arkansas’ physicality on offense than he was before the game saying, “we knew how talented and physical and big they were.”

Arkansas running back Raheim Sanders dominated the South Carolina defense, rushing for a career-high 156 yards.
