With official visit and camp season approaching, Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks football program has put together one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
USC currently sits at number six according to the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings.
Sitting just ahead of South Carolina: Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, and Michigan.
For historical context, the best finish for the Gamecocks in the “dot com” era was seventh in the country, a feat accomplished for the 2007 recruiting cycle.
To formulate the team recruiting rankings, a program’s top six commitments (in terms of prospect score) are currently utilized.

South Carolina’s average prospect ranking of 90.91 is the country’s fifth-best mark currently.
The team recruiting rankings utilize the On3 Industry Rankings. This is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services.
The On3 Industry Ranking weights the primary recruiting media services based on past performance data, and overall scouting and recruiting coverage investment.
For football, the algorithm is weighted as follows: On3 (35%), 247Sports (35%), Rivals.com (20%) and ESPN (10%).
The Gamecocks currently have ten verbal commitments for the 2024 class. Of those, eight carry four-star rankings.
Offensive linemen Josiah Thompson (Dillon High, South Carolina) and Kam Pringle (Woodland High, South Carolina), plus tight end Michael Smith (Calvary Day School, Georgia) all reside in the top 100 nationally.

Three-star class members Blake Franks (Greenville High, South Carolina) and Mike Williams (Flowers High, Maryland) were highly sought-after players with impressive offers lists prior to their commitments to South Carolina.
“They’ve stuck right there — top five, top six, top seven — for months now and I think they can continue that,” GamecockCentral.com’s Wes Mitchell recently said of USC’s 2024 class on On3 Roundtable. “The key will be can they close in on some of these final targets?”
Numerous high-profile targets remain for the Gamecocks, such as five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart out of the D.C. area.
“If you look at what they already have, there are some guys out there that they, I think, feel good about where they’re at with. I don’t think they’re sort of tapped out yet if that makes sense,” Mitchell said. “I think they have a chance to sort of keep hanging in there. You have to keep adding guys as the process plays along if you’re gonna stay in that top seven range. They have the potential for it.”
