South Carolina adds commitment from intriguing under-the-radar Greenwood athlete

Greenwood (S.C.) class of 2026 three-star ATH Triston Lewis landed an offer from South Carolina on Thursday and he wasted no time deciding to join the program.
The 6-foot-3.5, 195-pounder committed to the Gamecocks on Thursday afternoon.
“Well, for one, it’s in state, of course,” Lewis explained to GamecockCentral. “Coach (Shane) Beamer always talked about, he’s said it before, ‘The best guys in South Carolina come to South Carolina.’ I went to a game last year and I loved the environment, the energy, the fanbase and all that. It just felt like home, especially with it feeling so close to home.
“Coach Beamer talked about development at media day and how they developed DQ Smith from being a high school QB to being so good on defense, and I just felt like that was a good reason to go ahead and go there.”
Lewis debuted as a three-star prospect in the Rivals rankings and is considered the No. 41 safety in his class and No. 18 prospect in the Palmetto State.

Lewis, who plays quarterback for his Eagles team, worked out for the staff at camp last month and had an impressive showing.
He is slated to play defensive back in Columbia for coach Torrian Gray, who served as his recruiter of record.
Lewis is the second commitment to South Carolina this week after Clarksville (Tenn.) Kirkwood four-star offensive tackle Kamari Blair announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on Wednesday night.
He is also the 12th commitment in South Carolina’s class and the third defensive back pledge.
