South Carolina commit David Bucey debuts as three-star
As On3 updates its prospect rankings for the 2024 cycle, recent South Carolina football commit David Bucey has officially been given a rating.
The Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian Prep standout debuted this week as a three-star prospect with a rating of 86, putting him towards the middle of the three-star spectrum.
The 6-foot, 200-pounder has also been officially moved into the safety category, the position he’ll play at South Carolina after previously being listed as a linebacker.
With the On3 rating now intact, Bucey is ranked the No. 93 safety and No. 133 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class.

The position change and addition of an On3 rating also mean a shift for Bucey in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of all the major recruiting media companies.
The Industry Ranking pegs Bucey as the No. 1208 prospect in the country and the No. 102 safety in the class with a rating of 84.92.
ESPN currently gives Bucey the highest mark, listing him as the No. 21 LB in the country. Rivals lists him as the lowest among the four networks, ranking him as a 5.5, a low three-star on the Rivals Rating scale.
Both On3 and 247Sports, which have similar scales, rate him as an 86.

“It was great,” Bucey said after the visit. “I mean, all the people are great. Facilities, people, food was great. They fed me well. But I mean, I love everything about school. It’s a great place.”
“The campus is really pretty,” he added. “The town just looks nice. Facilities, everything that South Carolina has to offer is great.”
Bucey was recruited to Columbia by defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.
“It’s picked up fast, picked up quick,” Bucey said of his relationship with Gray. “But built a better relationship over the (viist) weekend, and we talked a lot, and talked a lot about football towards the end, did a little bit of what he does with player development, and freshman development, all that stuff.
As a junior this past season, Bucey accumulated 100 tackles including 18 tackles-for-loss and 4.0 sacks as well as five interceptions on defense while adding 747 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on offense.
Bucey also holds offers from Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, App State, and Tulane, among others.
