For the second straight year, On3’s Mike Huguenin is praising one of South Carolina’s incoming transfer wide receivers.
Last year, Huguenin named Juice Wells an FCS transfer to watch and this past week he listed Memphis-to-South-Carolina transfer Eddie Lewis as a “more-important-than-you-think SEC transfer.“

Said Huguenin:
Lewis helps the Gamecocks in two ways. First, he should be an effective complementary receiver to Antwane Wells for QB Spencer Rattler. Lewis led Memphis in receiving yards (615) and tied for the team lead in TD catches (seven); he was third on the Tigers with 42 receptions. Second, he was one of the most productive punt returners in the nation, with 26 returns for 255 yards (9.81 per return) and a touchdown. South Carolina’s special teams are among the best-coached in the nation, so it’ll be interesting to see how Pete Lembo deploys Lewis. Lewis was a two-year starter for the Tigers after transferring from Butler County (Kan.) CC.
Lewis enrolled at South Carolina last month and is going through winter workouts with the Gamecocks.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder arrived at Memphis via Butler Community College. Prior to the junior college stop, the newest Gamecocks wide receiver began his career at Rutgers.

As a high school prospect out of the 2017 class, Lewis was ranked by the On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry standard that averages rankings from all four major recruiting services – as a three-star prospect.

The On3 Consensus also tabbed Lewis as the 17th-best prospect in New Jersey and as the 86th-best wide receiver prospect in the 2017 cycle.
Six of the Gamecocks’ top 10 players in receptions from the 2022 season will not be back with the team in 2023.
Earlier this offseason, South Carolina transfer and former Newberry College running back Mario Anderson was named one of Huguenin’s “Division II transfers you need to know in 2023”.
Said Huguenin:
Anderson (5 feet 9, 210 pounds) received some All-America notice after rushing for 1,560 yards and 19 TDs for Newberry, whose campus is about 45 miles northwest of South Carolina’s. Anderson rushed for 1,237 yards and 12 TDs in 2021. He had 16 100-yard outings in 30 career games at Newberry. South Carolina’s rushing attack wasn’t much in 2022 – and the top two rushers are gone (and one of those was a tight end who had been pressed into tailback duty). In short, ample playing time is available. Anderson’s performance in spring practice will be a big storyline for the Gamecocks.
