Here is On3’s scouting report on the South Carolina commitment.
Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect with plus length and reactive movement skills. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 275 pounds prior to his junior season. Has plus length and a big frame to continue adding weight. A twitchy mover for the position. Flexible athlete who plays low and with good pad level. Gets underneath the pads of opposing defensive linemen. Generates a push as a run blocker. Has some of the better reactive quickness among offensive tackles in the 2024 cycle. Will need to develop his pass set technique, but has the natural tools to be a top pass protector, likely as a left tackle. Has a developmental frame, but may need time in the weight room to add strength and mass. A high-upside prospect who projects as one of the top offensive tackles in the cycle pending further development.
On3 also compares Thompson’s skillset to that of former Notre Dame signee and Baltimore Ravens first round pick Ronnie Stanley.
“I really like his reactive quickness,” said Charles Power, director of On3’s scouting and rankings. “I think that’s what stands out to me the most is he can really move side to side. He’s got good balance, I think he continued to get stronger, and then just the functional movement skills.”
Thompson chose South Carolina in April over an impressive offer list from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, and numerous others.

“They’re getting a very, very athletic person that can play on the edge, which is very rare, and that’s what I’ve had all these D1 coaches from all over the country tell me, that you don’t find guys that can maneuver out in space on the edge on the offensive line like he can, pass-setting on those very, very athletic defensive ends that you’re going to play against in the SEC,” said Thompson’s high school coach, Kelvin Roller, in April.
South Carolina now has two five-star commits in their 2024 class as five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart is ranked the No. 12 overall prospect in the class, according to On3.
