In-state four-star DB commits to South Carolina

South Carolina continues its in-state recruiting dominance for the 2024 class as Florence (S.C.) West Florence four-star safety Kelvin Hunter announced his pledge to the Gamecocks Wednesday.
The 5-foot-11.5, 179-pounder’s final group that he announced last month included Appalachian State, Auburn, Michigan, and Virginia Tech.

Hunter has been a long-time target for South Carolina and is being primarily recruited there by defensive backs coach Torrian Gray. He has been a mainstay on campus throughout the spring and was last in Columbia for the Gamecocks’ Garnet and Black spring game on Saturday.
He is the No. 194 overall prospect and No. 17 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the No. 4 recruit in South Carolina.

Per the 2024 On300, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 198 overall prospect, No. 20 safety and No. 5 player in South Carolina.

Per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, South Carolina was the major favorite to land his commitment, leading at 98.5 percent, at the time of his pledge.
Gamecock Central entered a prediction for the Gamecocks to land Hunter last month.
