Savannah DB commits to South Carolina
Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian Prep three-star standout David Bucey said last week that if everything checked out on his South Carolina official visit this past weekend that he’d likely be joining the Gamecock football program.
And it must have, because the new South Carolina target announced a pledge to the Gamecocks on Monday, one day after leaving campus.
“It was great,” Bucey said Sunday after the official visit. “I mean, all the people are great. Facilities, people, food was great. They fed me well. But I mean, I love everything about school. It’s a great place.”
“The campus is really pretty,” he added. “The town just looks nice. Facilities, everything that South Carolina has to offer is great.”

While Bucey is not yet ranked by On3, he is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the No. 97 linebacker in the country.
But the 6-foot, 200-pounder is being recruited as a defensive back at South Carolina after earning an offer from Torrian Gray following a camp performance earlier this month.
“I worked really hard at that camp and I was super excited,” Bucey told GamecockCentral last week. “I was smiling. Jody Wright called me, Coach (Torrian) Gray called me, and then Coach (Shane) Beamer called me. I was super happy. I told my mom and she started tearing up. So it was all good things.”
While the offer is new, he’s been building relationships with, and feeling the love from, the South Carolina staff for some time.

“It’s picked up fast, picked up quick,” Bucey said of his relationship with Gray. “But built a better relationship over the weekend, and we talked a lot, and talked a lot about football towards the end, did a little bit of what he does with player development, and freshman development, all that stuff.”

As a junior this past season, Bucey accumulated 100 tackles including 18 tackles-for-loss and 4.0 sacks as well as five interceptions on defense while adding 747 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on offense.
Bucey also holds offers from Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, App State, and Tulane, among others.
Bucey’s commitment is the 13th public pledge in the Gamecocks’ 2024 recruiting class and comes after South Carolina hosted one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the summer.
In addition to the Savannah safety, South Carolina hosted Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart, Burlington (N.C.) Cummings four-star WR Jonathan Paylor, and Meridian (Miss.) four-star ATH (RB) Daniel Hill on campus as well as most of its commitments.
