Long-time South Carolina target Jalewis Solomon decommits from Auburn

Ellaville (Ga.) Schley County class of 2024 four-star athlete Jalewis Solomon — at the center of an intense down-to-the-wire battle between South Carolina and Auburn two months ago — has decommitted from the Tigers.
The 6-foot, 185-pounder, recruited by both schools to play defensive back, went back and forth between South Carolina and Auburn down to the final minutes before ultimately committing to Auburn on Aug. 5.
Now the talented target is back on the open recruiting market.

Solomon’s recruitment at one point appeared to be down to South Carolina and Florida State as he took summer official visits to both schools. But late unofficials to both Columbia and for Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend resulted in a close matchup between the two schools as his decision day approached.
While Solomon is listed as an “athlete” on On3, South Carolina defensive backs coach Torrian Gray wants Solomon to play defense for him and there’s a strong relationship there.

“It’s close, it’s tight,” Solomon said in June. “He was a defensive back himself, so just talking with Nick (Emmanwori), and Nick was telling me how good of a coach Coach Gray was. And I could see that, and I could see that he loves putting his players on, and he loves playing his freshmen.”

Solomon is the No. 272 overall prospect and No. 10 athlete in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 31 player in Georgia.
Despite Solomon’s commitment to Auburn, Solomon remained a priority target for the Gamecocks and still is now with his decommitment.
GamecockCentral will continue to track Solomon’s recruitment moving forward.
