Drew Hixson was named Assistant Director of Player Personnel on Feb. 2, 2021. Hixson comes to Carolina from the University of Kansas. He joined the KU football staff in February 2019 as the director of scouting, where he was responsible for identifying and evaluating prospects. He also assisted the recruiting staff in all aspects, including unofficial and official visits.

Prior to his arrival in Lawrence, Hixson spent the 2018 season at Virginia working in the football department, assisting with the program’s recruiting efforts and activities.

Hixson graduated from Georgia in May of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. During his time at Georgia, he spent two years in the football recruiting office, first as a student assistant and then as a volunteer recruiting assistant.

A native of Bethlehem, Ga., Hixson married his wife, Charlee, in June 2018.

Shane Beamer was familiar with Hixson from his time as an assistant at the University of Georgia, and Hixson was brought in by Beamer in February of 2021 to serve on his staff in Columbia.

“Drew and I were together at Georgia and thought he did a fantastic job when we were together my first two years in Athens. He’s someone who’s broadened his network going to Virginia and to Kansas then coming back here,” Beamer said at the time. “He’s from Georgia so to have them back in this part of the country is awesome to have those guys in the building just from an organization and structure standpoint.”

Hixson has been an important part of the Gamecocks’ recruiting efforts for the past two recruiting cycles. USC’s 2022 class ranked 28th in the country according to the On3 Consensus Team Rankings, and the 2023 class currently checks in at number 16 nationally.

“Obviously, there are ebbs and flows throughout recruiting, but the biggest thing is to just stay the course. And we certainly did throughout this process,” Shane Beamer said during his early signing day press conference back in December.
