Senior Bowl's Jim Nagy offers high praise for Xavier Legette
Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy has been a big fan of South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette since the Gamecocks’ big-play senior exploded onto the scene in Week 1 vs. North Carolina.
I mean, what’s not to like about Legette, who has consistently shown a diverse, complete skillset as South Carolina’s top receiver throughout the season.
During the Gamecocks’ win over Vanderbilt on Saturday, the SEC Network crew shared a recorded spot with Nagy in which he gave his latest thoughts on Legette as a player and NFL prospect.

“No offensive prospect has helped himself more this fall than South Carolina’s Xavier Legette,” Nagy said. “Coming into the season, we saw him as a really good special teams player and kick returner, but he’s emerged as a true playmaker in the South Carolina offense. He’s 6-foot-1, 220-pounds, but he plays even bigger than that as we’ve seen in contested situations all season for the Gamecocks.”
Legette has already accumulated 59 receptions for 1,093 yards and five touchdowns as this past week he became just the fifth receiver in school history with a 1,000-yard receiving season.

Alshon Jeffery’s 1,517-yard 2010 season, which came with the benefit of playing in both an SEC Championship and bowl game, remains the school record and may be out of reach for Legette.
But with at least two games left on the schedule, the Mullins, S.C. native needs just 51 more yards to move into second place on USC’s all-time single-season list.
While the numbers are surely impressive, NFL teams love measurables and Legette has them in spades.

“He’s also going to be a guy that runs 4.3 (in the 40-yard-dash), so he’s going to be one of the top height, weight, speed receivers in this class,” Nagy continued. “The Senior Bowl had six wide receivers go on day two in that second, third round range last year and we feel like Legette’s worked his way into that same range heading into this draft process.”
Legette and the Gamecocks host Kentucky this weekend before taking on rival Clemson in the regular season finale the following week.
