Senior DL Nick Barrett to return for one final season
South Carolina is set to lose a huge portion of its defensive tackle rotation to graduation after this season but the Gamecocks received some positive news on that front Wednesday night.
Senior defensive lineman Nick Barrett, who played in four games this season and was able to redshirt, is expected to return to Columbia for another season in the Garnet and Black.
Barrett signed a new NIL deal with South Carolina’s collective, Garnet Trust, this week.

The 6-foot-2, 309-pounder has been in South Carolina’s defensive line rotation since he first arrived on campus though he has never quite broken through as a starter.
A consistent member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Barrett’s GamecocksOnline bio credits him as someone who “does everything right on and off the field.”
The Goldsboro, N.C. native and Eastern Wayne High School graduate has played in 38 career games with one start.
Barrett was in Carolina’s deep defensive tackle rotation at times this year but with so many contributors and with Barrett dealing with an injury he was able to redshirt to return for another season.

The Gamecocks are set to lose Tonka Hemingway, Boogie Huntley, and DeAndre Jules from their interior d-line rotation while redshirt junior T.J. Sanders has not officially declared his intentions but is a projected draft pick and walked during Senior Day festivities.
Player retention has been a big focus for Shane Beamer and his staff this offseason as they look to continue the momentum of a 9-3 season.
“Kudos to our fanbase, kudos to our administration, kudos to the Garnet Trust for all they’ve done to be able to help us and our guys out in so many ways,” Beamer said of South Carolina’s efforts in player retention last year. “This program is about relationships, honesty, and trust and having conversations with guys, and building relationships throughout the season. Guys have expressed to us that they want to be (here).”
“I think retaining our current roster is the most important thing,” added Darren Uscher, South Carolina football’s Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, during a recent appearance on GC Live.
