June is still a day away but South Carolina will get a head start Friday on what has become arguably the busiest month on the modern recruiting calendar.

The Gamecocks will host the Shane Beamer Camp on Friday on their practice fields, the first of 10 camp days throughout the summer, most of which will take place in June.

South Carolina will also kick off its first of three big official visit recruiting weekends beginning on Friday as a dozen Gamecock targets will get an in-depth look at the program.

“June’s really busy, obviously,” Shane Beamer said recently at the Myrtle Beach stop on the Welcome Home Tour. “We’re doing workouts with our own players. We have summer camps for the high school young men pretty much every day, it seems, recruiting weekends where we have official visits. So June is really, really, really busy for us. But we’re fortunate that we’re able to get a couple hours a week of football work with our guys.”

The summer on-campus camps for high school athletes have become a key evaluation tool for staffs across the country as it allows coaches to put prospects through NFL Combine style testing as well as work them through drills and get a feel for how coachable they are.

But even for non-recruited athletes, it can be a great opportunity for players to work with a college staff in a college facility.

“Shane Beamer Football Camps are a great way for young athletes to learn new techniques and become overall better football players,” reads the camp sign-up. “In addition, campers will have the opportunity to learn from our Football Coaches and current student-athletes at the University of South Carolina. Shane Beamer football camps are designed to help young athletes excel in the game of football.”

GamecockCentral will have complete coverage of each camp session.
