Shane Beamer gives latest on Juice Wells, others
With just 11 days until South Carolina kicks off its 2023 football season with North Carolina, one of the biggest questions left to answer is whether preseason All-American receiver Juice Wells will be full-go for the opener.
Gamecock head football coach Shane Beamer met with the media on Tuesday afternoon to provide an injury report on Wells and the rest of his football team.
“Injury-wise, we’re in pretty good shape,” Beamer said. “There will be, certainly, some guys as we get into it next week that would be listed as maybe questionable as we go into the game, but in my mind, we’re expecting all those guys to play. Trey Knox, Juice Wells, Nyck Harbor, all of those guys that have been banged up a little bit, they all tell me they’re playing and they’re all on track to, as well. And that’s how we’re going forward with that.”

Wells has been recovering from a “lower body” injury that he suffered during the summer and that carried over into preseason camp. Harbor has missed time with an undisclosed injury.
“I expect them both to play,” Beamer said. “Juice was out there. He didn’t practice practice but he was out there running around today and catching balls and doing some light jogging and things like that. Are they full-go? No. Do I expect both of them to play next Saturday night? Absolutely.”

Knox, the transfer tight end from Arkansas, tweaked his knee a couple of weeks ago but has since returned to action and has been full-go in practice.
Freshman linebacker Pup Howard was in a blue “non-contact” jersey during the open portion of practice last week due to an undisclosed injury but Beamer said he was back now as a full participant in practice.

Senior EDGE Tyreek Johnson has been at practice all preseason but has been limited with a non-contract jersey, which he is still in, Beamer said.
“I wouldn’t say he’s good to go (yet), I would say he is probably probable for next week, would be my guest right now,” Beamer said. “He did not practice today but he’s not far off from being ready to practice.”
