South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler has been content with just letting his play on the field do the talking so far in 2023.

So it’s not much of a surprise that Rattler — while still acknowledging the level of opponent that South Carolina faces in Georgia this week — kept the focus on the Gamecocks when asked about the Bulldogs.

“I feel good; the group feels good. It was good to get a win under our belt,” Rattler said Monday afternoon in a Garnet Trust Exclusive on GC Live. “We’ve still got some stuff to clean up. We’ll have a scheme for this group we’ve got on Saturday. It’s a great team, a great defense, so we’re going to have to be playing very clean football and execute on a high level. But our focus is just on us right now. We’ve got to focus on us and do what we do best.”

That said, Rattler appreciates the opportunity to suit up in the Garnet and Black and play in front of one of college football’s great atmospheres at Sanford Stadium.

While the former Oklahoma quarterback has played a lot of ball at this point in his career, it will be his first trip to Athens.

“Of course. Getting to play a back-to-back national champion,” Rattler said. “To go up there and just give it your all. That’s all we can do, go out there, play clean, execute at a high level, and play our best ball, and see where it falls from there.”

Rattler, who earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his play against Furman, has been outstanding through two games, carrying over his hot finish to last season with an impressive start under new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains.

So far this season, the Arizona native is 55 of 66 for 698 yards passing and three touchdowns (with one rushing TD), all while playing turnover-free football.

“It’s been super fun, actually getting to go against somebody else the first two weeks,” Rattler said. “I know we didn’t have the outcome we wanted our first week but I think we showed flashes and knew what we were good at, knew what we had to clean up. I feel like going into Week 2, we really wanted to clean everything up, especially before this week. I think we used that kind of as a tune-up game and trying to get things right, and we were clicking on all cylinders — it was a fun game.”

The Gamecocks and the Bulldogs are set for a 3:30 kickoff Saturday afternoon in Athens with CBS carring the broadcast.
