Three freshman football players suspended
Three freshmen from the South Carolina Gamecocks football team have been arrested, per a University of South Carolina release sent to the media on Friday afternoon.
Monteque Rhames, Cameron Upshaw, and Anthony Rose are all suspended per USC.
“Our student-athletes know what is expected of them,” South Carolina head football Shane Beamer said in the release. “They know that both the University and the football program will hold them accountable for their actions and decisions.”
According to online records maintained by Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, Rhames was booked on Friday on two charges: carrying weapons on school property and obstruction of justice.
A report from David Cloninger of the Post and Courier notes that USCPD officers were dispatched to 650 Lincoln, which houses Gamecocks student athletes, on January 25. Cloninger also notes that Rhames has a court date set for March 31, according to online records.
Rhames, a four-star EDGE prospect, arrived at South Carolina as an early enrollee in January after committing as part of the 2023 recruiting class.
