Coastal Carolina transfer portal wide receiver Jared Brown won’t have to move far to his new home.

The 6-foot, 190-pound big-play receiver announced his commitment to South Carolina on Monday, via On3’s Pete Nakos, fresh off an official visit to Columbia.

“The visit itself just, they just made me feel like I was at home,” Brown told GamecockCentral.com. “They don’t just need me, they also want me, so that goes a long way for me. I felt that family was a big part of what they do and that means a lot to me.”

Brown, ranked a high three-star prospect and the No. 21 wide receiver in the transfer portal in the On3 Industry Ranking, collected 108 receptions for 1,534 yards and 11 touchdowns in 27 games at Coastal. He also added 439 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

During his time at Coastal Carolina, the Peach State native was a weapon catching the football down the field but also carrying it out of the backfield.

“They want to use me in a similar way, but they’re going to move me around some ways and just really develop me as a receiver,” Brown said.

The newest USC commitment will have two years of eligibility left.

Brown chose the Gamecocks over public portal offers from Auburn and Louisville, among others.

A Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview graduate, Brown originally signed with Coastal as a three-star prospect in the 2021 class.

“Their program is great, too. I feel like they’re building something special there, and I feel like I can be the addition to make them even better,” said Brown. “So I feel like they have everything that I need to be a better player.”

Brown is the first transfer portal prospect to commit to South Carolina this offseason and was one of eight portal targets to visit Columbia over the weekend.
