Gamecocks in ‘decent shape’ on injury front after Missouri game

One day after South Carolina running back MarShawn Lloyd had to exit the Missouri game early with an injury, Gamecock football head coach Shane Beamer provided an update on his status Sunday night on his teleconference.

“Injury-wise, we’re in decent shape,” Beamer said. “Everybody, I would say, is probable for this week. MarShawn has still got a pretty significant bruise on his quad, but he says he’ll be fine for Saturday and we’ll continue to monitor that as the week goes. We should get Terrell Dawkins back this week. He practiced tonight and looked good and gets better and better.”

Lloyd, who had seven carries for 30 yards in the 23-10 loss to the Tigers, exited the game and then tried to return but ultimately didn’t look himself and was removed.

South Carolina was without starting linebacker Brad Johnson against the Tigers. Johnson did not dress out and was spotted on the sideline wearing a walking boot.

After the game, Beamer said he was dealing with a lower-body injury and the South Carolina staff didn’t feel good enough to play given what Missouri does offensively. They said he didn’t feel comfortable with the limited number of reps he got in practice this week.

Beamer did not specifically provide an update on Johnson on Sunday.

Safety Devonni Reed exited the game with an injury that at first appeared to be serious but he was ultimately able to return to action.

Dawkins has missed the last five games with a knee injury that required surgery. He returned to practice last week but has been easing back in to game shape, it appears.

South Carolina and Vanderbilt square off at 7:30 p.m. in Nashville on Saturday on SEC Network.
