Mazeo Bennett lands on On3's True Freshman standouts list
For the second time this football season, a South Carolina freshman is being featured on On3’s list of top freshman performers it puts out each week.
Gamecocks wide receiver Mazeo Bennett, already a consistent contributor in his first four games on campus, had perhaps the best game of his young career against Akron, and was named one of eight standout freshmen in the country this week.

Here’s what On3’s Charles Power had to say about the former four-star prospect:
South Carolina has been in search of playmakers at wide receiver and looks to have found a promising true freshman in Mazeo Bennett. The former four-star prospect turned in his most productive outing of the season in the Gamecocks’ 50-7 win over Akron. With starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers out with an injury, Bennett gave backup Robby Ashford a reliable target, catching five passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. The in-state product’s score came late in the first quarter as he worked down the seam and shook a safety before coming down with a pass from Ashford in the end zone. Through four games, Bennett is the Gamecocks’ leading receiver with 159 yards and two touchdowns.

The four-star prospect from Greenville (S.C.) was at one time committed to Tennessee but decommitted from the Vols and ultimately signed with the Gamecocks.

Bennett has 11 receptions on the season.
“There’s so much knowledge in our room, starting with Coach (Mike) Furrey. We got a coach that played in the league, been a top receiver in the league,” Bennett said Saturday.. “The knowledge that I can gain from Coach Furrey, along with the players that’s in my room, it’s not a ‘little bro’ in our room. It’s always like, ‘Hey, you’re in this, so this is what you’ve got to do’ … everybody want to see everybody eat in that room.”
Earlier this season, South Carolina freshman EDGE Dylan Stewart was featured as the top performer on the same list after his huge debut in Week 1.
