Boogie Huntley using month off from football to 'get my body right'
May is a crucial month for college football players. It’s the only time of the year without any football activity.
Spring games are wrapping up. Final exams are over. This leaves players with a chance to go home, see their families, travel and relax.
For South Carolina defensive tackle Boogie Huntley, it’s a time to get his mind right.
“I think, mentally, May is a huge month. A lot of guys get to go see their families, get to do things that you don’t usually get to do,” Huntley said on The Garnet Trust Hour on 107.5 The Game. “But for me, I’m a big May workout guy.”

Huntley is in the process of finishing his last exams before heading out on his break. After that, it’s off to the gym.
“I really like to get my body right because when we come in, Luke Day is going to make it as hard as possible,” Huntley said. “I don’t want to be blindsided by a workout. I like to come into May, have everything easy, get my mind right for the season.”
It’s a fair point. Day, South Carolina’s head football strength and conditioning coach, has a rigorous training program laid out for the summer. In the past, players have said it’s tough but comes with good results.

So with more free time at his disposal, Huntley doesn’t plan on wasting it. He said he wants to “get his body right as much as possible” for when he returns in the summer.

While it seems like Huntley might just be a gym rat, that’s not completely the case. He knows there’s other things he wants to do in May.
“(I want to) take little trips here and there. I still have my free time to do what I want to do but definitely get my body right,” he said.
Huntley, who will be entering his redshirt junior season, returns as a veteran on the defensive line. He started in three games last year, recording 21 tackles and one sack.
“It has flown by in a good way. I’ve had a lot of great experiences, a lot of things to learn off of,” Huntley said about his time as a Gamecock. “Everybody always says time flies, don’t take it for granted. And trust me, I believed every person who’s ever told me so I definitely didn’t take any for granted but it flies.”
