Shane Beamer updates injuries after Georgia loss
South Carolina was a MASH unit heading into Saturday’s game against Georgia and left in a similar state.
The Gamecocks lost Devonni Reed, Stone Blanton and Darius Rush during the game to pair with the litany of already banged-up defenders as well.
Reed left the game with a hip injury and is getting an X-ray, Beamer said, while he was talking. Stone Blanton left with a shoulder injury while Darius Rush left the game and didn’t return with a hamstring injury.

Beamer mentioned after the game starting left tackle Jaylen Nichols was out with an injury. He didn’t specify what the injury was but Dylan Wonnum started at left tackle with Tyshawn Wannamaker at right.
The Gamecocks were down five starters defensively, including Mo Kaba and Jordan Strachan, who are out for the year.
Cam Smith, RJ Roderick, Boogie Huntley and David Spaulding all missed Saturday’s game. Corey Rucker was also listed as questionable and did not play Saturday.
All of those are big losses for South Carolina with all of those guys at worst contributors when healthy. Rucker would contend for a starting spot while Huntley, Smith and Roderick all started when healthy. Spaulding played in the Gamecocks’ opener at nickel but didn’t make the trip to Arkansas last weekend.

“Our depth isn’t where it needs to be, for sure, but we’ve got really good players on this football team,” Beamer said earlier in the week. “And we’re going to take a bunch of really good guys out there on Saturday to play against a really, really, really good Georgia team.”
Beamer said postgame the Gamecocks anticipate those guys being available for next week’s game against Charlotte.
The Gamecocks fell 48-7 to Georgia, the worst loss to the Bulldogs ever. Beamer apologized to the fan base after the loss, mentioning the injuries were not an excuse after a blowout loss to the Bulldogs.
Strachan and Kaba were deemed out for the season.
“Hate it for Mo, hate it for Jordan Strachan. Two great players. Great young men who had worked so hard this offseason to prepare themselves for the season,” Beamer said during his press conference Tuesday. “Those guys are great leaders for us and will continue to be.”
