A very productive stretch for South Carolina basketball has now moved into the 2024 class. The Gamecocks picking up another Finland-based forward in Okku Federiko Thursday.

Federiko, who plays for Omnia Basketball Academy, committed to the Gamecocks over offers from Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Duquesne along with interest from other schools.

Federiko is one of two 2024 commitments in South Carolina’s class. On3 has Federiko as a three-star prospect and the No. 137 player in the class. He checks in as the No. 28 power forward in the class.

South Carolina recruited Federiko’s brother, Fede, last cycle. Fede ultimately became a key piece to Pittsburgh’s NCAA Tournament team in 2023.

In nine games on the EYBL circuit, Federiko averaged 10 points over 23.4 minutes per game. He shot 48.1 percent from two. He averaged 8.9 rebounds per game, 3.2 on the offensive end with four blocks in nine games.

“Okku, he’s a little different. He’s different than the other Federiko. The other Federiko was a pure five,” Omnia Academy head coach Justice Graham told GamecockCentral in February. “Okku is more of a stretch four and a three depending on how much more he works on his ball handling. He’s 6-foot-8, 6-foot-9 and can shoot the three. It’s very effortless when he shoots. He can rebound. He needs to work on ball handling more. But he would be more of a stretch four who can rebound and block shots also. He’s long, he’s got like a 7-foot-4 wingspan. He’s somebody that can go inside-out too.”

South Carolina offered Federiko and his teammate, Morris Ugusuk, in the middle of the season and hosted each for official visits in March while each was stateside for visits.

The Gamecocks’ 2024 class is off to a good start with Federiko’s commitment along with his teammate Morris Ugusuk. And it comes on the heels of what South Carolina hopes is a potentially foundation-laying 2023 class.

South Carolina has two incoming freshmen while signing three transfers in this recruiting class currently.

Two local prospects are expected to enroll as freshmen this summer in Collin Murray-Boyles and Arden Conyers.

The 6-foot-8 forward finished third in the NIBC, arguably the best high school conference in the country, in scoring (280 points) and points per game (15.0) on 69.5 percent shooting.

He also led the league in rebounding with 105 boards while averaging a league-best 8.8 per game.

Because of that, he soared into the top 100 of the On3 rankings, sitting currently as a four-star and at No. 99 overall.

The On3 Industry ranking–which is a weighted average of all four major recruiting services–has Murray-Boyles as a four-star prospect and also the No. 106 player in the class.

Arden Conyers, a sharp-shooting wing out of Westwood (S.C.) High School, is the other freshman scheduled to enroll this summer.
