South Carolina learns first round draw for SEC Tournament

The regular season is officially over for South Carolina. Now, there’s only one path to the postseason: win the SEC Tournament.
To do that, the Gamecocks will have to win five games in six days. It all starts on Tuesday as they’ll be the No. 15 seed and face Florida, the No. 10 seed. First pitch will be at 5:30 p.m. on SEC Network. All games will be played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.
The Gators (38-19) underwent a serious turnaround in SEC play. They started 1-11 in the conference but won 14 of their next 19 SEC games to finish with a 15-15 record and significantly improve their standing for the postseason.

During that hot stretch, Florida made a trip to Columbia in early May, embarrassing South Carolina in a three-game series sweep. The Gamecocks were outscored 39-8 and allowed 30 of those runs in a May 4 doubleheader in which they lost 22-3 and 8-0.

South Carolina heads into the conference tournament, enduring one of its worst seasons in program history. In head coach Paul Mainieri’s first season, the Gamecocks went 28-28 and 6-24 in the SEC. If they were to lose to Florida, which would end their season, they would finish with the program’s most losses in a season. It would also be the second time in four seasons that they finish with a losing record after going under .500 in 2022.
South Carolina only won one series during conference play. That came when it took two of three in an April 17-19 home series against Ole Miss. It finished with nine SEC series losses, including five sweeps.
