Video: South Carolina looks to build off of Week 4's success in run game

This past weekend, South Carolina gave us all a taste as to what this offense can truly look like when they get their run game going. That started with the emergence of transfer running back Mario Anderson.
“He continues to get better and progress, there’s no question about it,” said Shane Beamer. “He did a really good job in blitz pickup the other night. Really, all of our running backs did, him and DK.”
Anderson appeared in a season-high 47 snaps on offense and rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. While Anderson’s success provided USC a spark in the run game, Beamer is still high on the impact Dakereon Joyner can have at the position.

“Make sure we realize that Dakereon Joyner has done some really good things as well. Dakereon Joyner had a touchdown run the other night where we completely whiffed and didn’t even block the linebacker on the goal line. He had to lower his shoulder and run through arguably one of, if not the best linebacker in the SEC, unblocked.
“Dakereon has done some really good things as well and he’ll continue to as he gets more comfortable at running back. And then, Mario gives us an added element with his physical style of running and what he did Saturday night, also.”

The 144 yards rushing marked just the third time in the past seven games that South Carolina has rushed for over 100 yards. And yes, USC has won all three of those games.
“We were getting movement on three-techs and we were running wide-zone pretty well,” said offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo. “What that does to the defense is linebackers have to come down, safeties have to come down, and it opens up opportunities for Spencer (Rattler).”
“It opens it up, loosens it up a little bit,” said Rattler about the running game. “Credit to the O-line and the running backs, they did a great job in the run game. I’m trying to help out anyway I can in the run game as well. I feel like I can do a better job of that but Mario and DK, those guys are doing a great job.”
