South Carolina players weigh in on favorite uniform combos
Luke Doty knows he’s likely in the minority, but he still loves the throwback helmets South Carolina wore last season.
But that doesn’t make him love it any less.
And it’s those helmets–or another classic look–he loves wearing the most.

“I think my favorite has to be the white helmet, garnet jersey and the white pants. That’s a classic look. I will say I am a fan of the throwbacks,” Doty said. “I know that got a lot of heat but I really liked it and I was a fan. Do’nt know if we’ll wear ‘em but I’ll stand strong baby.”
In less than a week, South Carolina takes the field for the first time this season. It’ll also be the first uniform combination of the season.
And some South Carolina players weighed in on their favorite uniform combinations or what the Gamecocks should wear in the season opener.

The most popular answer was one of the all-one-color looks: the famous Stormtropper or all black uniforms the Gamecocks have busted out from time to time.
Freshmen Vicari Swain and Elijah Caldwell both prefer the all black look. Caldwell also likes the Stormtrooper look while Doty mentioned the all whites are pretty good options as well.
Doty–outside of the classic white-garnet-white look–said he likes black helmet with garnet jerseys and pants look as well.

The Gamecocks haven’t out the all black since Shane Beamer took over while the Stormtropper look was last used on the road last season against Arkansas.

That classic white helmet, garnet jersey look with white pants was used three times last season: Georgia, Charlotte and South Carolina State.
Two other uniforms that got some votes were from Nick Barrett and Debo Williams. They each picked the garnet jerseys with garnet pants topped with a black helmet. Barrett also has an affinity for the classic black jersey, white pants, garnet helmet look.

“I usually go black helmet, garnet jerseys, garnet pants but we haven’t worn black in a long time. I’ll say garnet helmets, black jerseys, white pants.”
The Gamecocks haven’t announced what their combos for the season opener will be yet, and that should come out on Saturday before the first game.
South Carolina players were off Saturday and are now officially in game week with practices Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before the opener Saturday.
The Gamecocks will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC against North Carolina.
