LaNorris Sellers opening up 'a lot of eyes' going into fall camp
There’s no question that Spencer Rattler is the talk of the town when it comes to quarterbacks at South Carolina. But there are others in the room that have proven to be just as valuable.
“We got a really good quarterback room. People don’t talk about Luke Doty anymore, and he’s played some pretty good football for us down the stretch,” Shane Beamer said at SEC Media Days. “Luke, Tanner Bailey, Colten (Gauthier), all those guys, we really like our quarterback room. Spencer is our starter and he needs to be on the field. But we’ll see where things go.”

One other name who has stood out since arriving on campus earlier this year is LaNorris Sellers. The freshman quarterback has already “opened up a lot of eyes,” Beamer said.
“Him being there for spring practice was really beneficial for him,” Beamer said. “Certainly, LaNorris has a bright future at our place. And he showed at spring practice that the moment is not too big for him if he were to have to play this season.”
Sellers was the only quarterback signed by the Gamecocks in the class of 2023. The excitement surrounding him was real with his dual-threat abilities. He completed 150-of-258 passes for 2,948 yards with 45 touchdowns and two interceptions as a senior at South Florence High School last year. He also ran for 1,338 yards and 17 touchdowns last year with the Bruins.

So when he came into spring practice, he put those abilities on full display. With a large crowd on hand for the Garnet and Black Spring Game, he ran for a game-high 42 yards on eight carries, bringing some excitement in the second half. He also went 3-for-8 passing for 66 yards with the highlight being a 50-yard connection to DJ Black.
Since then, Sellers has done nothing but continue to work. Heading into fall camp, he will have put on 13 pounds of muscle, now weighing in at 245 pounds.
“He’s a great young player, you know, big kid,” Rattler said. “Love LaNorris. Really respectful. Likes to learn from his elders. You know me, Luke Doty, other guys.”
As for what his role will look like entering the season, that remains to be seen. He’ll be fighting for reps behind Rattler in fall camp. But the future does look bright for him.
“He’s soaking everything in, and he’s going to be a really good player,” Rattler said.
