South Carolina racks up awards for SEC Football Players of the Week
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and punter Kai Kroeger were named two of the SEC’s Players of the Week after a 17-14 win over Clemson. Sellers was selected as a co-Offensive Player of the Week and Kroeger was a co-Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Both players had spectacular performances on Saturday in Death Valley. Sellers was the catalyst in helping the Gamecocks complete their comeback victory in the fourth quarter with a go-ahead 20-yard touchdown run with 68 seconds to go. The redshirt freshman completed 13-of-21 passes for 164 yards and one interception. He also ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Kroeger had a very similar performance akin to 2022 against Clemson. The fifth-year punter punted five times for 233 total yards, averaging 46.6 yards per attempt. His longest punt traveled 58 yards and he pinned the Tigers inside their own 20-yard line three times.
The Gamecocks will now await their postseason fate and see where they’ll be heading next. The College Football Playoff bracket, Top 25 rankings and bowl matchups will be revealed on Selection Day, which is next Sunday, Dec. 8 from 12-4 p.m. on ESPN.

In the aftermath of the win, head coach Shane Beamer was quick to appoint Sellers as the “best player in the country” live on national television. Then in his postgame press conference, he made it clear that Heisman Trophy voters need to vote for his star player.
“If you’re not voting for that guy, for in the mix for the Heisman Trophy, you’re out of your minds,” Beamer said on Saturday. “Name a player in the country that’s done more than that kid has this year, particularly today, in the environments that he’s done it in.”
Truth be told, Sellers won’t win the coveted award this year, much less be named a finalist. But he has picked up some steam late in the season. On Monday, On3 released its Heisman Trophy Poll, featuring the Top 10 player rankings after Week 14. Sellers made the cut at No. 10.
