South Carolina RB Oscar Adaway III teams up with his dad and others for Holiday Toy Giveaway
Oscar Adaway Jr. wasn’t going to miss this. Even if it meant driving all the way from Little Rock, Arkansas to Columbia, South Carolina. He wanted to be there for his son.
After making the 10-hour drive throughout the football season to watch Oscar Adaway III play for the Gamecocks, coming out for his son’s Holiday Toy Giveaway was an easy decision. On Thursday, the sixth year running back, with his dad on hand, partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands to help provide toys for children in need this Christmas.
“This today wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for him. It was part of his idea to do it,” Adaway III told GamecockCentral. “He drove all the way from Arkansas, Little Rock to 10 hours to come down here, just so he can help me, knowing that I’m down here by myself.”

The event took place at Pine Grove Elementary School, where dozens of children from the Boys and Girls Club were surprised by the Adaway father and son duo walking in with a shopping cart filled with a variety of wrapped gifts.
“Some of those kids, we don’t know, but maybe one of those kids not gonna get a gift this Christmas,” Adaway III said. “And so, for me to come in here, person that they probably didn’t even know who was, all they know is a number jersey 27 on Saturday playing for the Gamecocks, to come in here and give them a gift, that means a lot.”
Adaway III said he went to a couple of stores all over the Columbia area to pick out toys, games and other items for the children. He gave a shoutout to Thomas Dugas, the owner of Touchdowns, a restaurant/bar located in Five Points, along with Village Idiot Pizza owner Brian Glynn, who each donated money to help put on this event.
Glynn also personally delivered boxes of handmade pizzas from his restaurant to the school for the children to enjoy a nice meal while receiving a present directly from Adaway III.

The best part of the event, for both Adaway III and his dad, were the smiles on the children’s faces throughout the day. That was what made it worth it for them.
“You saw them jumping and opening gifts,” Adaway Jr. said. “It just says a lot about Oscar, his character, and what his mother and I and the village that surrounds us have produced.”
As Adaway III handed out presents and slices of pizza, Adaway Jr. couldn’t help but be a proud father. It may have been the proudest he’s ever been seeing his son use his platform for good.
“As a father, to watch him come from four years old in football and be given an opportunity to play at this level and give back to the community, it says a lot about him,” Adaway Jr. said.
“It means the world to me, man. This is the best Christmas gift I could possibly get. This is it.”
