The two starters – Myles Stute and Jamarii Thomas – are expected to miss extended time. Stute has been ruled out indefinitely since the team announced on Jan. 7 that he had been diagnosed with a blood clot in his lower left leg. Prior to his diagnosis, Stute was averaging 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across 14 contests.

Three days later, the Gamecocks announced that Thomas would miss three to four weeks after suffering a right knee sprain during practice. He had been averaging 12.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, in addition to leading South Carolina with 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Stute and Thomas are the only two Gamecocks listed on the availability report, though. Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, who was “probable” heading into Saturday’s game Auburn, appears to be fully healthy for Wednesday.

In Stute’s and Thomas’ absences, multiple South Carolina players have seen upticks in playing time. Morris Ugusuk appeared in the Gamecocks’ starting lineup for the first time in his collegiate career on Saturday against Auburn, logging 32 minutes and scoring seven points on 3-12 shooting. Arden Conyers, who totaled a career-high 13 points against the Tigers, saw 30 minutes on the court.

As for the Commodores, they had three players listed on the availability report. Both Tyler Tanner and Grant Huffman are listed as “questionable,” Alex Hemenway, who has yet to play this season after transferring from Clemson, was listed as “out.”

During the offseason, the SEC approved a new policy that mandates availability reports for conference games. The reports will be required for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. For football, teams submit reports on Wednesday and then update them each day until a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports will be submitted the evening before a game and then updated on game day.

The availability reports will use designations such as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful” and “out” to describe how likely it is that a particular player will suit up for the next conference game. On game day, those designations will shift to “out” or “game-time decision.” The reports model professional sports leagues’ injury reports.

South Carolina and Vanderbilt will tip off at 6 p.m. from Memorial Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday. The game can be viewed on the SEC Network.
